Other Site Characteristics

Espacio situado al extremo más septentrional de las sierras litorales catalanas, en contacto con los relieves del Collsacabra en el Sistema Transversal. Las Guilleries son un macizo antiguo de edad paleozoica, formado principalmente por materiales graníticos y esquistosos. El paisaje, condicionado por un sustrato ácido y un clima suave y humedad elevada, es predominantemente de carácter forestal con densos y ricos bosques que cubren una gran parte del país. El macizo está cubierto mayoritariamente por bosques mediterráneos perennifolios -encinares y alcornocales-, aun cuando los bosques de caducifolios - robledales, hayedos, castañares...- son frecuentes en las umbrías y fondos húmedos.

Se trata de un espacio situado en la zona de transición entre las regiones mediterránea y centroeuropea con una buena representación de elementos característicos de ámbas. Constituyed una buena muestra de las comunidades vegetales de la fauna de los ecosistemas forestales del estrato montano.

Los límites de este espacio han sido trazados de acuerdo con la cartografía topográfica y planimétrica de referencia, a escala 1:50.000, del Instituto Cartográfico de Catalunya, que es el instituto cartográfico oficial y competente de la Generalitat de Catalunya. Los mapas facilitados para formalizar la propuesta de este espacio y definir su delimitación, citados en más adelante en este formulario, tienen la misma precisión de detalles, y la misma calidad, que los mapas de la cartografía topográfica y planimétrica de referencia, a escala 1:50.000, que publica con carácter oficial el Instituto Cartográfico de Catalunya.
