Other Site Characteristics

La mayor parte de este espacio está ocupada por una mezcla de terrenos de cultivo dispersos en medio de zonas boscosas y de matorral. Se encuentra situado al pie de las mesetas segarrencas; está formado por materiales yesosos que afloran en el núcleo erosionado del anticlinal de Sanaüja y Ponts. La vegetación propia de estos suelos yesosos son los tomillares gipsícolas continentales de gatuñas (Ononis tridentata) y trincolas (Gypsophyla hispánica) y las jarillas (Helianthemum esquamatum). En las zonas soleadas dónde desaparecen los yesos son frecuentes los matorrales calcícolas de romero o pequeños fragmentos de carrascares, y en las umbrías los quejigares de Quercus faginea.

4.2 Quality and importance

Entre los objetivos de conservación de este espacio, detallados en el Apartado 3, cabe destacar su importancia como área de dispersión de jóvenes de águila perdicera (A093). También son destacables, las poblaciones de sisón (A128), alcaraván (A133) o carraca (A231) en la zona. Además alberga algunas extensiones representativas de vegetación gipsícola (1520) así como enclaves de relativa importancia de robledales de Quercus faginea (9340).

Los límites de este espacio han sido trazados de acuerdo con la cartografía topográfica y planimétrica de referencia, a escala 1:50.000, del Instituto Cartográfico de Catalunya, que es el instituto cartográfico oficial y competente de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
