Other Site Characteristics

Se trata de un terreno eminentemente agrícola con cultivos extensivos de cereal separados por muros de piedra que se alternan con pequeños bosques de acebuche (Olea europaea var. silvestris) configurando el paisage agrícola en mosaico típico menorquín. El sitio incluye dos estanques temporales con su cuenca de recepción y un poblado talaiotico catalogado como bien de interés cultural (BIC).

4.2 Quality and importance

El lugar coincide con la cuenca de recepción de un hábitat prioritario por la directiva del Consejo 92/43/CEE: estanque temporal mediterráneo. En él crían Bufo viridis y Hyla meridionalis (ambas incluidas en el anejo IV de la directiva hábitats y en el catálogo Nacional de Espécies Amenazadas.). Además tambien habita el crustáceo Triops cancriformis, espécie del Triásico que ha mantenido sus carácteres inalterados hasta la fecha y que es exclusivo de los estanques temporales y Brachinepta ferox, otro branquiópodo, que en todo Baleares solamente a sido citado en esta localidad.
