Other Site Characteristics

La geomorfología de la zona se caracteriza de tierras llanas formadas por materiales aluviales derivados de sustratos silíceos (Bundsendstein). Esto faborece, entre otras cosas, la presencia temporal de aguas superficiales a causa del carácter impremeable de estos materiales. En la zona tambien son presentes pequeñas elevaciones rocosas qeu funcionan en cierta manera como islas de ambientes más secos dominados por sustratos rocosos y refugios de biodiversidad en medio de tierras con una larga tradición agrícola. Destaca la formación de algunos estanques temporales en la parte septentrional del lugar gracias a la existencia de bloques aislados de roca silícea. Ademàs, en la parte central se encuentra un estanque temporal de origen artificial, construido en 2007 con fines educativos. El hábitat ha evolucionado de forma natural y a día de hoy alberga casi toda la fauna y flora característica de este tipo de hábitat.

4.2 Quality and importance

El lugar tiene interés por el hecho de incluir dos hábitats prioritarios de la Directiva Hábitats: estanque temporal mediterráneo (3170) y prados pseudoestépicos con anuales del Thero-Brachypodietea (6220), además del hábitat 9340-Bosques de Quercus ilex: 17.817,89 m2., los hábitats 9320 Bosques de Olea y Ceratonia y 5330 Matorral termomediterráneo y pre-estépico: 238.975,11 m2.

En la zona hay vigentet un plan de reforestación de la finca pública de Santa Eularieta áprobado en junio de 2009 por el Consell Insular de Menorca que prevé la reforestación y recuperación de 80659m2 del hábitat 9320.
