Other Site Characteristics

Corrales de Rota se localiza en el ámbito paisajístico de Litoral Bahía de Cádiz, encuadrado en el área paisajística de Costas bajas y arenosas. En los mencionados corrales existe una dominancia de sustratos duros frente a los sustratos blandos. Los primeros, formados principalmente por rocas (Lumaquela Plioceno Terminal-Pleistoceno), dan lugar a una geomorlogía caracterizada por afloramientos rocosos.

4.2 Quality and importance

Este espacio aporta una estructura de arrecifes, de origen artificial, usados para el aprovechamiento tradicional de los recursos marinos. La construcción de los primeros corrales se remonta a la época romana. Sus características ecológicas de gran riqueza, se fundamentan en la presencia de especies animales y vegetales propias de áreas rocosas a la vez de fangos y arenas. En ellos son importantes las comunidades algales de amplia variedad. Las especies con motivo D en la sección 3.3 están indicadas en el inventariado de especies relevantes presentes en la ZEC.
