Además del patrimonio natural del espacio hay que señalar su patrimonio cultural, ya que han aparecido restos arqueológicos de diversas épocas, desde la griega a la Baja Edad Media, pasando por la romana, cuando fue utilizada como cantera para la extracción de arenisca; los visigodos, en cambio, la emplearon como necrópolis, al igual que los musulmanes. En la Edad Contemporánea también ha tenido diversos usos, como leprosería, en el siglo XIX, y como explotación de guano para abono.

4.2 Quality and importance

Este refugio contaba hace veinte años con una colonia de cría de varios miles de M. myotis y M.blythii. En la actualidad ha habido un claro descenso en la población pero aún sigue teniendo gran interés no sólo porque siguen criando un elevado número de individuos de la especie M. myotis y M. Blythii, sino por el número de especies de crían y el importante número de individuos del murciélago de cueva (M. schreibersi) que pasan el invierno en esta cavidad.
