Other Site Characteristics

La explotación minera es un complejo desarrollado y de grandes dimensiones. La mayoría de los pozos han sido cerrados para evitar accidentes. La mina ha funcionado parcialmente hasta 2003. En el ámbito de la ZEC existe una boca y un pozo como estructura subterránea de refugio para los quirópteros cavernícolas. La entrada principal, con reja, da a una galería horizontal amplia (2x2 m) que sirve de desagüe del complejo. No se puede pasar de los 300 m, por derrumbes y porque el nivel de inundación aumenta en esta zona hasta 1,5 m. El pozo maestro (Sotiel Coronada II) de la antigua explotación minera tiene importantes dimensiones (hasta 70 m de profundidad), y parece que conecta con la galería de desagüe en algún punto, pero, al no poder realizar una exploración completa, se consideran refugios independientes; cuenta con un muro de ladrillo recrecido para evitar accidentes y facilitar la entrada de los quirópteros desde 2002.

4.2 Quality and importance

Este refugio alberga una de las colonias de cría más importante de toda Europa para el Rhinolophus mehelyi. Junto con ella, comparten el espacio en época de cría seis especies más de murciélagos.
