El río Guadiana menor discurre por los paisajes característicos de la Depresión de Guadix (altiplanos esteparios), las campiñas alomadas, acolinadas y sobre cerros de las Campiñas Altas, alcanzando la Vega del Guadalquivir en su tramo inferior.

4.2 Quality and importance

Río importante para Rutilus alburnoides. En la sección 3.3 se ha mencionado el motivo D con respecto a la siguiente especie: Cynomorium coccineum presente en el Catálogo Andaluz de Especies Amenazadas. Decreto 23/2012 - Vulnerable, en la Lista Roja de la Flora Vascular de Andalucía. UICN 2004 - Vulnerable (Lista Roja de la Flora Vascular de Andalucía) y en el Libro Rojo de la Flora Silvestre Amenazada de Andalucía.
