Other Site Characteristics

La característica morfológica dominante en la Reserva Natural Laguna de la Ratosa es la existencia de una gran cantidad de dolinas. Se ubican dentro del sistema hidrogeológico nº 39 “Cuenca detrítica de Antequera”, que se desarrolla de este a oeste al norte de la ciudad del mismo nombre.

4.2 Quality and importance

Forma parte de un importante complejo endorreico junto a las Lagunas de Fuente de Piedra y Campillos. De valor relevante para el asentamiento de una variada avifauna acuática. No existen datos de otros vertebrados que no sean aves, dado que la salinidad y la temporalidad de las aguas de la laguna son incompatibles con el desarrollo de los peces. Aunque en ciclos de inundación normales las condiciones hidrológicas no favorecen el desarrollo de anfibios, en periodos húmedos, con elevados niveles de agua, baja salinidad y gran amplitud del periodo de inundación, se registra la presencia y reproducción de gallipato (Pleurodeles waltl)
