Other Site Characteristics

La franja costera está caracterizada por ser entrecortada con varios arrecifes rocosos, además de algunos entrantes y salientes que conforman algunas pequeñas calas protegidas del mar dominante del norte. Estas están delimitadas por tierra por un pequeño acantilado. El acceso a la franja costera por tierra carece de acceso rodado y está restringido a algunos estrechos caminos. Existe una playa arenosa, originada sobre un tómolo que une la cosat con un pequeño roque. Los fondos marinos son principalmente rocosos y abruptos de suave pendiente.

4.2 Quality and importance

Fue una de las últimas zonas que ocuparon las poblaciones de Foca Monje en Canarias. Hasta hace algunos años era una de las zonas más ricas en recursos pesqueros, debido en gran parte a la productividad de sus aguas y al alejamiento de las grande áreas pobladas y puertos pesqueros. En la actualidad este hábitat aún reúne las condiciones óptimas para la reintroducción de la especie.
