El área se caracteriza por el recortado litoral rocoso de la costa de sotavento de la isla de Lobos, que conforma algunos arrecifes, canales, pequeñas caletas someras y lagunas. los fondos someros y arenosos en su mayor parte, están cubiertos por arenas claras de origen organógeno sobre las que sobresalen multitud de arrecifes de formación subaérea, lo que unido a la gran transparencia y luminosidad de sus aguas proporcionan una gran y singular belleza paisajística, siendo uno de los fondos canarios con mayor riqueza florística y faunística.

4.2 Quality and importance

Estos sebadales, con las implicaciones ecológicas que poseen, se encuentran en fondos someros de una de las zonas más ricas y productivas de Canarias en especies marinas de plantas, invertebrados y peces. La topografía de los fondos rocosos que afloran entre el sebadal, producto de una época anterior de erosión subaérea, crean una paisaje muy singular con estructuras geomorfológicas de gran interés y belleza, además de originar una gran cantidad de microambientes que favorecen la biodiversidad marina. Destacar la presencia de poblaciones de especies endémicas de Canarias o macaronesia, de especies de distribución restringida y en peligro en Canarias, siendo un área de alto valor para la cría y reproducción de especies de interés pesquero y ecológico. Anotar la presencia esporádica de Tursiops truncatus y Caretta caretta.
