Sector final del espectacular barranco dde Ruíz, que abarca una de sus zonas más escarpadas y abruptas. -el cauce se encuentra profundamente encajado en materiales de distinto origen que incluyen la serie basáltica fisural del edificio central, la serie sálica de este mismo edificio y la serie basáltica reciente. Todo el área protegida alberga una alta biodiversidad endémica, con endemismos amenazados tales como el cabezón (Cheirolophus webbianus) y uno de los muchos taginastes de Tenerife (Echium giganteum). Los escarpes que flanquean el cauce poseen muchas plantas rupícolas; las laderas menos abruptas y el cauce de la zona baja cuentan con abundantes tabaibas, cardones y especies acompañantes; y el cauce, en las zonas más altas y profundas del barranco, posee interesantes comunidades de transición con reductos de laurisilva. La avifauna de este lugar se compone de canarios, herrerillos, capirotes, currucas, pinzones, petirrojos, etc. En las paredes del barranco nidifican, asimismo, cernícalos y agulillas. En el lecho del barranco, en la parte final del área protegida y en las laderas hasta considerable altura, hay diversos cultivos (plátanos, etc.). En torno a ellos se aprecian también depósitos de agua y canalizaciones. En dos lugares muy localizados hay además construcciones asociadas a los cultivos.

4.2 Quality and importance

El barranco Ruíz posee un destacado interés científico motivado por la alta biodiversidad de especies que alberga, con una bueana muestra residual de bosque de transición entre comunidades de tabaibales y cardonales, y de laurisilva, y una excelente representación de flora rupícola. Constituye un barranco de gran belleza paisajística e interés geomorfológico.
