Kohdealue on merkittävä lintuvesi, jonka ympärillä on kukkuloita ja poikittaisharjujakso. Alueen länsirannalla on vanhaa talousmetsää. Alueen rantakasvillisuus on monipuolista. Järvi on tyypiltään mesotrofinen.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kohde on hyvä lintuvesi jota reunustavat avoluhdat ja osin rantaniityt. Metsäiset ranta-alueet ovat paikoin reheviä ja tihkupintaisia. Alueella pesii runsaasti lintudirektiivin lajeja. Arvokkaita kosteikkolajeja ovat täplälampikorento ja lummelampikorento, lähteisyydestä kertoo korpihohtosammal. Maatalouden aiheuttama rehevöityminen on alueen merkittävin uhkatekijä. Alueella vallitseva luontotyyppien ja lajien sekä niiden elinympäristöjen tila säilytetään turvaamalla luonnon omien prosessien mukainen kehitys. Osalla aluetta luontotyypin tai lajin elinympäristön laatua tai lajin populaation elinvoimaisuutta parannetaan ennallistamis- ja hoitotoimenpitein. Kaikki tietolomakkeen taulukoissa 3.1 ja 3.2 mainitut luontotyypit ja lajit (lukuun ottamatta populaation merkittävyyden osalta luokkaan D luokiteltuja lajeja) kuuluvat alueen suojeluperusteisiin ja kaikkien näiden osalta suojelutavoitteena on vähintäänkin alueen merkityksen säilyttäminen.
