Other Site Characteristics

Le massif forestier de Rambouillet s'étend sur 22 000 ha. Il comprend 14 000 ha de forêt domaniale, le reste des boisements étant privé ou appartenant à des collectivités. Ce secteur est situé sur un plateau à argiles sur sables. Les vallées ont fortement entaillé ce plateau ; sept cours d'eau pérennes sont présents sur le massif, ainsi que de nombreux étangs, rigoles et fossés alimentant le château de Versailles. Les zones humides (landes humides, milieux tourbeux) sont très sensibles aux perturbationx hydrauliques (draînage par exemple).

4.2 Quality and importance

Présence d'une trentaine d'espèces végétales protégées en Ile-de-France dont certaines sont très rares en zone planitiaire. Les zones humides de Rambouillet (tourbières, landes humides) sont parmi les plus remarquables de la région ; d'une grande originalité floristique en raison d'une double influence atlantique et septentrionale, ces milieux hébergent une flore exceptionnelle pour le bassin parisien.
