Other Site Characteristics

Le massif forestier de Crécy-en-Ponthieu, essentiellement acidicline à mésoacidicline, à caractère atlantique, situé en façade maritime du plateau picard, et typique des argiles à silex recouvert de limons sableux est constitué principalement de hêtraies méso-acidiphiles atlantiques à Ilex aquifolium -Ilici aquifolii-Fagion sylvaticae) traitées en futaie, sous sylvofaciès de hêtraie pure ou plus ou moins associée aux chênes -Quercus petraea, Q. robur et hybrides). Ce massif est particulièrement représentatif et exemplaire (structure, texture, typicité, étendue,…) de la Hêtarie-Chênaie acidicline à Surelle et Houx (Oxalo acetosellae-Fagetum sylvaticae). Propre aux régions atlantiques picardo-normandes, ce type forestier est surtout représenté à Crécy par sa sous-association holcetosum mollis (aussi bien d'ailleurs sous ses formes matures en futaie que de substitution en taillis sous futaie). Ce type forestier était, il y a encore peu de temps, confondu avec la hêtraie-chênaie acidiphile à houx de l'Ilici aquifolii-fagetum sylvaticae). L'état de conservation du massif est plutôt satisfaisant malgré quelques enrésinements, notamment dans les secteurs dégradés de taillis sous futaie. Le noyau central de hêtraies atlantiques acidiclines a conservé une bonne structuration, mais pose, comme tous ces peuplements, des problèmes classiques de régénération.

4.2 Quality and importance

La flore et la faune forestière sont bien typées et remarquables sur le plan régional. La flore présente plusieurs plantes menacées en limite d'aire nord-orientale, des cortèges sylvatiques acidiclines, mésoacidicline et neutrocline, ...). L'avifaune nicheuse comporte de nombreuses espèces inscrites à la Directive Oiseaux. L'entomofaune est constitué d'une guilde des insectes sylvatiques des vieilles forêts avec une espèce menacée). La qualité de l'air, l'atlanticité et la structure agée des peuplements entretiennent également une flore remarquable et diversifiée de lichens et de bryophytes corticicoles. L'ensemble, de grande valeur sylvicole, constitue par sa superficie, la qualité des peuplements, la composition dendrologique caractéristique, un complexe forestier remarquablement expressif et exemplaire des potentialités forestières acidiclines de la façade atlantique du Nord de la France. En outre, le site compte plusieurs arbres classés et un faciès à Houx dense (secteur de la Tombelle des Grands hêtres)
