Other Site Characteristics

Falaise crayeuse fossile en situation sous-littorale, avec séquences géologiques et géomorphologiques exceptionnelles au niveau de coteaux abrupts festonnés occupés par un "complexe dynamique pelousaire ou d'origine pelousaire", dominant un vaste complexe dunaire littoral. Habitats pelousaires nécessitant le maintien ou la restauration d'un pâturage ovin extensif. Eboulis crayeux dont le rajeunissement doit être assuré et la qualité préservée (risques de dépôts agricoles organiques à la base). Gestion complémentaire par fauche exportatrice, recépage et/ou débroussaillage des lisières herbacées et arbustives calcicoles, pour préserver ou restaurer leur caractère oligotrophe. En l'absence de pâturage, stabilisation de la dynamique de recolonisation (densification par le Brachypode penné, le Brome dressé ou d'autres graminées, embroussaillement) et rajeunissement par la fauche régulière et la coupe des arbustes. Maintien des prairies sommitales et talus parfois boisés constituant des espaces tampons protecteurs vis-à-vis des engrais et produits phytosanitaires utilisés dans les cultures intensives du plateau.

4.2 Quality and importance

Mosaïque d'habitats calcicoles solidaires dans l'espace et dans le temps (pelouses rases écorchées, pelouses-ourlets, prairies mésotrophes, fourrés,...) Pelouses boulonnaises d'influence maritime comportant notamment : - un type d'habitat uniquement représenté en France dans le Boulonnais et proche des pelouses anglaises de Douvres qui forment avec les pelouses de Scandinavie une unité phytosociologique particulière (pelouses calcicoles occidentales du Nord de l'Europe). Il s'agit du noyau majeur avec le site du Cap Blanc-Nez de la série calcicole centrée sur la pelouse thermoatlantique xérotherme du Thymo drucei - Festucetum hirtulae subass. hippocrepidetosum comosae, celle-ci occupant une grande partie du site. - une pelouse marnicole hygrophile à la base de ce coteau, également endémique des collines boulonaises et rapportée à la sous-association thermophile du Succiso pratensis-Brachypodietum pinnati (subass. hippocrepidetosum comosae). Intérêt floristique majeur avec, en particulier, un cortège important d'espèces végétales protégées et/ou menacées dont certaines rarissimes à l'échelle française (Gentianella amarella, Euphrasia tetraquetra).
