Other Site Characteristics

Plateau de calcaires crétacés faiblement incliné vers le nord-est (vallée de la Charente), limité à ses deux extrêmités nord et sud par deux vallons dominés par des falaises. La disparition de tout pâturage sur les pelouses précipite la dynamique vers des faciès arbustifs moins interessants. La pratique de moto tout-terrain dégrade certains habitats.

4.2 Quality and importance

Complexe de pelouses calcicoles xérophiles (différentes associations), de falaises, d'ourlets et de fourrés thermophiles à Nerprun des rochers et de chênaie pubescente infiltrée d'éléments sub-méditerranéens. Le site est notamment remarquable par le développement exceptionnel pour un secteur centre-atlantique non littoral de peuplements presque purs de Chêne vert (200 hectares). Par ailleurs, la présence d'une importante station d'Aconit tue-loups - espèce montagnarde en aire disjointe - ajoute à l'intérêt biogéographique du site.
