Other Site Characteristics

Complexe de landes calcifuges et habitats associés sur plateau argileux à bancs de meulière. La grande originalité du site réside dans la présence de nombreuses mares méso-oligotrophes développées dans les anciennes fosses d'extraction de pierre meulière. Le remplacement de la lande par des monocultures de résineux constitue la dégradation la plus forte (près de la moitié du site est aujourd'hui occupée par des plantations de pins). Le vieillissement de la lande et la dégradation des conditions d'éclairement au niveau des mares sont également des facteurs négatifs qui nécessitent des interventions de gestion (incendie, débroussaillage sélectif, etc).

4.2 Quality and importance

Site remarquable par l'étendue, la diversité et l'originalité de ses végétations de landes (nombreux faciès en fonction de l'hydromorphie) et qui constitue un des exemples les plus représentatifs et les mieux conservés au niveau régional de la lande haute à Erica scoparia ou "brande". Les très nombreuses mares parsemant la lande, bien que d'origine anthropique, ajoutent à l'originalité du site et servent d'habitats à plusieurs espèces menacées (libellules et amphibiens).
