Other Site Characteristics

Vallée s'inscrivant presque entièrement dans les formations métamorphiques et granitiques de la bordure occidentale du Massif central. Le site est localisé sur 2 domaines biogéographiques: domaine atlantique et domaine continental. Une partie importante du site est constituée par les gorges encaissées et peu accessibles de la Cère. Impact des conduites forcées sur le débit, dans la partie amont du site. Vulnérabilité des milieux aquatiques à la pollution. Problèmes de franchissement d'ouvrages par les poissons migrateurs devant être résolus à relativement brève échéance dans la partie aval du site (axe prioritaire d'extension du programme poissons migrateurs Adour-Garonne). Le relief des gorges les rendent difficilement exploitables pour la production forestière. Cette partie du site qui concerne essentiellement les chiroptères, les forêts de ravins et les végétations sur roches siliceuses, est peu vulnérable.

4.2 Quality and importance

Intérêt notable largement lié à la présence de frayères potentielles pour les poissons migrateurs anadromes (Salmo salar, Petromyzon marinus) ainsi que par la présence de la Loutre. Site en continuité spatiale et fonctionnelle avec la vallée de la Dordogne. Ce site est également d'une importance majeure pour les chiroptères, avec de très nombreux gîtes connus d'hibernation de reproduction. La tranquillité liée à l'escarpement des gorges, l'abondance de refuges naturels (abri sous roches) ou artificiels (ouvrages abandonnés), et la qualité des milieux rendent ce secteur très favorable aux chauves-souris.
