Other Site Characteristics

Site peu pénétré par les activités anthropiques, vaste surface forestière non exploitée depuis longtemps. Le site est localisé sur 2 domaines biogéographiques: 41% pour le domaine atlantique et 59% pour le domaine alpin. Le site représente un des aquifères importants du département ; milieu karstique remarquable. Déprise agricole occasionnant une fermeture du milieu, mais activité pastorale toujours présente (restauration possible).

4.2 Quality and importance

Stations "xérothermiques" refuges d'espèces méditerranéennes (site exceptionnel), nombreuses espèces végétales en limite d'aire, proximité entre formations thermophiles méditerranéennes et atlantiques, avec également des milieux montagnards. Intérêt des forêts "subnaturelles" (non exploitées depuis longtemps).

Aménagements forestiers pour les forêts domaniales et soumises. Programme d'aménagement du PNPO 2005-2010 pour la zone périphérique. Document d'objectifs, validé en avril 2005, réalisé par l'Office National des Forêts (agence de Tarbes).
