Other Site Characteristics

Ce site d'intérêt communautaire inclus également 105 km de linéaire. Un projet interrégional (Limousin-Auvergne) de ZPS est envisagé sur une partie du site. En amont, le site constitué essentiellement de gorges est peu vulnérable aux activités humaines. Les activités touristiques qui existent déjà sur le site, et qui pourront bénéficier de sa désignation, devraient pouvoir continuer à se développer dans un esprit de développement durable. En aval, l'enjeu essentiel est imputable aux éclusées des grands barrages et à leur impact sur la reproduction du saumon atlantique. Des progrès sur la remontée de cette espèce ont cependant été constatés, liés aux efforts accomplis depuis de nombreuses années sur tout le cours de la Dordogne.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les vallées de la Dordogne sont constituées de gorges offrant de fortes pentes (déclivité de 50% par endroits) disposant de nombreux habitats rocheux sur substrats métamorphiques et basaltiques. Les habitats forestiers sont diversifiés et certains sont probablement des vestiges de forêts peu perturbées par l'homme. D'autre part, du fait de son orientation générale la vallée représente un lieu de passage important pour les migrations aviennes.
