Explanation(s):Site sans Habitat d'IC, puisque l'Aqueduc sert d'Habitat artificiel pour l'enjeu majeur de ce site : les chiroptères. Aqueduc construit dans les années 1400-1500 pour conduire l'eau et alimenter les fontaines de la ville de Pézenas.

Other Site Characteristics

Le site proposé est centré sur les galeries que constituent les vestiges de l'aqueduc de Pézenas : les recherches menées par le groupe chiroptères du Languedoc-Roussillon ont en effet montré l'intérêt majeur de cette galerie comme gîte de reproduction et d'hivernage pour certaines espèces de chauves souris d'intérêt communautaire. Le site comprend également des habitats potentiellement favorables à l'alimentation des chauves souris, notamment des jeunes en début de nuit : essentiellement des vignes, mais aussi des lambeaux de garrigue et de pelouses sèches. Les vestiges de l'aqueduc de Pézenas sont assez peu connus du grand public et les risques de perturbation des chauves souris dans la galerie sont donc limités, bien que potentiellement existant, aucune structure locale n'ayant en charge la gestion de ces vestiges. De ce fait, l'effondrement de la galerie ne peut pas être exclu en l'état actuel de la gestion de ce site.

4.2 Quality and importance

D'après les derniers recensements effectués en 2014 par le "Groupe Chiroptères Languedoc-Roussillon", l'aqueduc de Pézenas est un lieu de reproduction du Minioptère de Schreibers, du Petit Murin et du Grand Murin. C'est également un lieu d'hivernage pour le Murin de Capaccini. Le Grand Rhinolophe est présent toute l'année. Les lieux favorables à ces chauves-souris étant rares en Languedoc-Roussillon, ce site est d'un grand intérêt pour l'étude et le maintien de ces espèces.
