Other Site Characteristics

Le site proposé correspond à une zone de collines très largement exploitées par l'agriculture, en particulier la céréaliculture. De fortes influences océaniques marquent ce territoire situé dans la partie la plus occidentale de la région Languedoc-Roussillon. Les pratiques agricoles actuelles maintiennent une diversité de milieux favorable a priori à l'avifaune. Toutefois, l'évolution de ces pratiques dans un contexte économique incertain est un facteur clé du maintien de la qualité des habitats des oiseaux.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le paysage marqué par des reliefs de collines peu élevées, les influences océaniques du climat et la diversité des pratiques agricoles qui s'exercent sur ce territoire constituent autant de facteurs propices à la diversité de l'avifaune. Le site a également une position de transition entre la Montagne noire et les premiers contreforts pyrénéens et on y voir donc régulièrement des espèces à grand domaine vital soit en chasse, soit à la recherche soit de sites de nidification : le Vautour fauve, l'Aigle royal, le Faucon pèlerin sont ainsi plus ou moins régulièrement observés sur le territoire concerné.
