Other Site Characteristics

La vallée du Fango appartient à la Corse occidentale granitique et plus particulièrement au complexe volcano-sédimentaire du Cintu. La diminution du pastoralisme constitue un problème majeur pour le gypaète. Il n'y a pas d'autres menaces identifiées (tourisme et escalade ne sont pas une menace sur cette zone).

4.2 Quality and importance

La haute vallée du Fango est très isolée (tranquillité) et offre les caractéristiques favorables à la reproduction du Gypaète barbu. Le Couple présent a été découvert en 1999 dans le cadre du programme Life Nature. De nombreuses falaises sont favorables à la reproduction. Le mouflon est présent dans la zone ofrant ainsi des potentialités alimentaires non négligeables à cet oiseau en complément des troupeaux domestiques en déclin.
