Other Site Characteristics

The site includes the northern part of Vourinos' mountain chain and mountain Mellia. The area is covered by broad-leaved deciduous forest, conifers, scrubland and meadows.

4.2 Quality and importance

It is an important area mainly for breeding raptors and species of open arid areas. Priority species include: Circaetus gallicus, Aquila heliaca and Aquila chrysaetos. It is one of the few areas that Imperial eagles have been recorded in Greece during breeding season.
