Other Site Characteristics

The site is located at the southern edge of Rodos, south of Kattavia. It includes hilly areas, Prassonisi and the temporal wetland Livadi Kattavias. The majority of the area is covered by maquis and phrygana and there are some cereal cultures. The extensive wetland of Livadi Kattavias, is the southernmost of Rodos island and is preserved in a good condition, in spite of the existing drainage canals.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is of great importance mainly for passage raptors (Circus spp. Aquila heliaca, etc), waterbirds and passerines. It is also important for seabirds (Phalacrocorax aristotelis, Larus audouinii) and breeding raptors (Buteo rufinus, Falco peregrinus).
