Other Site Characteristics

It is a plain grassland used as an airport (with grassy runways). Vegetation is seminatural, it is degraded to a medium degree owing to intensive mowing, trampling and drainage. It cannot be classified unambiguously in the European Union Habitat system (EUR15) because of degradation. "Other land" types are minor roads, airport buildings, canals, etc.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kiemelt fontosságú cél a Spermophilus citellus (ürge) kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének fenntartása. It has good quality and great importance from the point of view of Spermophilus citellus population. This is the biggest population of the species between the rivers Danube and Tisza in the Great Hungarian Plain. It has a lot of animal species protected by national law.

4.5 Documentation

Relative abundancy of Spermophilus population is monitored in the framework of the National Biodiversity-monitoring System; there are annual reports about these surveys in the Kiskunság National Park Directorate. The most detailed document about the state of the grassland is an evironmental impact study (10.2003) made in the framework of authorisation process of the development of the airport. The process is not closed yet, the nature conservation authority wants to harmonize the interests of Spermophilus conservation and airport development.

No management plan available.
