Other Site Characteristics

The middle part of the Kemeneshát was once populated by hornbeam and oak woodland and Turkey oak - sessile oak woodland woodlands. The majority of these forests were cleared long ago and pastures have been forming for animal's grazing. A significant part of the soils at Kemeneshát has a bad water management and provides hay of low quality therefore is primarily appropriate for sheep pastures. In the beginning of the past century grazing was prevailing at almost the whole area of the Kemeneshát, therefore large pastures were formed. The bustard had a significant nesting population and these short-grass grasslands provided habitat for large ground squirrel populations. Later on, the grazing was pushed into the background and the abandoned pastures were populated with pseudoacacia and spruce. The Airport near Kenyer survived owing to the fact that it has been an military territory since First World War up to the present; the airport was maintained by grazing; the Turkey oak - sessile oak woodland near the airport hosted some military establishments. The area was thence undisturbed and was not getting any other treatment therefore the living world's survival was ensured.

Általános célkitűzések: A Natura 2000 terület természetvédelmi célkitűzése az azon található, a kijelölés alapjául szolgáló fajok és élőhelytípusok kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének megőrzése, fenntartása, helyreállítása, valamint a Natura 2000 területek lehatárolásának alapjául szolgáló természeti állapot és a kedvező természetvédelmi állapottal összhangban lévő gazdálkodás feltételeinek biztosítása. Specifikus célok: A pannon molyhos tölgyes állomány fenntartása, megőrzése az erdészeti kezelés mi-nimalizálásával, lehetőség szerint szálalással. Az akáccal vagy fenyővel történő felújí-tás kerülendő. A molyhos tölgyes erdőrészletekben a nagyvadetetők, sózók létesítésének elkerülése, a nagyvad állomány elsősorban a vaddisznó további terhelésének enyhítése érdeké-ben (értékes hagymások védelme). A területen található közönséges ürge (Spermophilus citellus) állomány fennmaradá-sának biztosítása, a jelenleg is működő legeltetés folytatásával. Az egykori kifutópálya déli és keleti szélén a további bokrosodás és a meglévő bokro-sok teljes záródásának, beerdősülésének megakadályozása. In order to maintain the ground squirrel population, the grazing should be continued in the area. In order to maintain the pioneer habitats, at certain places artificial disturbance should be performed (e.g. harrowing in one strip). Forests should not be exploited since the forest renewal in the soil with such bad water management is difficult.
