4.1 General site character

Other Site Characteristics

La più ampia area di brughiera pedemontana, caratterizzata da una scarsa copertura arborea a farnia, betulle e pioppi tremoli, e copertura erbacea prevalente a molinia e brugo. Interessanti: avifauna ed erpetofauna.

4.2 Quality and importance

Alta pianura terrazzata, a paleosuoli. Copertura forestale nei piccoli impluvi e molinieti a brugo sui pianalti. Estesa brughiera pedemontana con Calluna vulgaris, Molinia arundinacea, Pteridium aquilinum. Lembi di vegetazione palustre a Rhynchospora (R. fusca, R. alb), Carex hartmanii e Scutellaria minor, speciemeso-igrofile rarissimein Piemonte. Gli habitat acquatici annoverano: Utricularia australis, Nymphaea alba, Ranunculus flammula, inseriti nella Lista Rossa nazionale, oltre a Eleocharis carniolica e Isoetes malinverniana (endemismo esclusivo della pianura padana) Interessanti praterie acidofile e umide a Molinia caerulea con Gladiolus palustris Vegetazione forestale con castagneti, boschi alluvionali ad ontano nero (habitat prioritario con Alnus glutinosa), boschi misti ripari a farnia. Presenza di megaforbieti igrofili. Nellarea sono state osservate circa 150 specie di uccelli; quasi la metà sono nidificanti e sei in All.I Dir. Uccelli (Circus pygargus, Caprimulgus europaeus, Alcedo attui, Lanius collurio, Lanius minor e Emberiza hortulana). Per quanto riguarda lentomofauna, sono state censite 64 specie di coleotteri carabidi e 16 specie di coleotteri stercorari. Il popolamento di lepidotteri diurni conta 63 specie, alcune delle quali rare come, ad esempio, Maculinea alcon e Lycaena dispar.
