Other Site Characteristics

E' la principale area boscata delle colline del Po, con una importante stazione depressa di faggio e ontano bianco, con la presenza della rara Quercus crenata. Interessante la presenza di Ruscus aculeatus, a distribuzione discontinua, in Piemonte. L'alternarsi di bosco, coltivi ed ambienti prativi costituisce un mosaico ambientale che, per la presenza di numerosi ecotoni, favorisce la biodiversità. La superficie boscata nel sito è molto estesa e, di questa, una percentuale significativa,è individuata come habitat di interesse comunitario; inoltre il sito è stato anche inserito nei boschi da seme piemontesi per la raccolta di materiale propagativo di Prunus avium, Quercus petraea, Quercus robur, Sorbus torminalis.

4.2 Quality and importance

Pendii collinari, a esposizione prevalente Nord, con forti differenze microclimatiche e vegetazionali. Il sito è la principale area boscata, continua e relativamente ben conservata, delle colline del Po ad est della città di Torino. Tra i motivi di istituzione vi è la priorità di conservare i nuclei di faggio e di altre specie montane microterme (ontano bianco), quipresenti relittualmente e disgiunte dall'areale principale. Anche il pino silvestre, specie pioniera, relitto di fasi climatiche e gestione forestale diverse dalle attuali, è presnte con singoli esemplari a gruppi disgiunti dagli areali montano ed alto collinare meridionale. Presso il Bric Tourniola si trova un monumentale esemplare ultracentenario di Quercus crenata, una rara quercia dalle foglie sempreverdi semipersistenti, dal diametro del fusto di 100 cm., altezza di 17 m e chioma di 15 m di diametro. E' segnalata la presenza di Gladiolus embricatus, specie rara inserita nella lista rossa regionale e di Ruscus aculeatus, a distribuzione discontinua in Piemonte.
