Other Site Characteristics

Vasta conca a morfologia glaciale, con substrati prevalentemente calcarei del Trias medio della Zona Brianzonese interna, orientata in senso sud-nord con vaste estensioni di ghiacciai e praterie alpine ai piedi di pareti rocciose subvericali; presenza di pascoli. In estate è meta di un intenso turismo escursionistico ed alpinistico, in particolare nellarea del Rifugio Benevolo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Sito caratterizzato da una ricca flora interessante dal punto di vista della colonizzazione. Una parte del sito è stata segnalata dalla Società Botanica Italiana tra i biotopi di rilevante interesse vegetazionale e meritevoli di conservazione. Incluso in sito Corine. Zona transfrontaliera di migrazione dello Stambecco tra il Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso e il Parco francese della Vanoise.
