Other Site Characteristics

Sito composto di due aree localizzate sul versante esposto a sud della media valle centrale tra i comuni di Châtillon, Saint-Denis e Verrayes. Clima arido e caldo, tipico della zona continentale della regione. Substrato roccioso costituito da calcescisti intercalati a prasiniti e serpentiniti della Zona Piemontese. L'habitat 6210 è prioritario perchè caratterizzato da fioriture di orchidee.

4.2 Quality and importance

Settore particolarmente interessante essendo posto nel cuore arido della regione valdostana, quindi con ambienti vegetali xerotermofili ricchi di specie di origine steppica o mediterranea, oltre alla presenza di altre entita' rare nelle Alpi. Di elevato rilievo la vasta stazione di Thymus vulgaris L. e la ricchezza di Orchidacee, probabilmente unica in Valle d'Aosta.
