Il sito comprende il tratto medio di una valle boscosa ricca di corsi d'acqua ed è localizzato nelle vicinanze di un'area caratterizzata da coltivi e pascoli (condotti sia con metodi tradizionali, sia moderni) relativamente importanti sotto il profilo economico e sociale.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito ospita Uccelli elencati dell'allegato I della direttiva 79/409 CEE, nonchè una specie e due habitat prioritari dell'allegato I-II della 92/43 CEE. L'interesse per la Regione Liguria è dovuto anche al fatto che tale sito ospita entità vegetali endemiche ed è attraversato da un sentiero botanico ad uso didattico. Nel sito, facilmente raggiungibile dalle zone urbane costiere per mezzo di una linea ferroviaria locale a scartamento ridotto e basso impatto ambientale, è stato allestito un itinerario botanico con funzioni didattiche ed escursionistiche.
