Other Site Characteristics

Zona comprendente un vasto invaso artificiale con sponde piuttosto ripide. I terreni presenti fanno parte della formazione di Ronco (calcari marnosi, marne calcaree, marne, argilliti). Nell'intorno del lago sono presenti alluvioni di fondovalle, costituite da ghiaie con matrice sabbiosa. Nei corsi d'acqua è presente il gambero di fiume. Area in minima parte vincolata ex lege 1497/1939 ante L. n°431/1985. Il sito per le sue caratteristiche ecologiche viene attribuito alla regione biogeografica continentale, anche se ricade per l'89% nella regione mediterranea all'interno dei 7 Km di buffer.

4.2 Quality and importance

L'area comprende un invaso artificiale di discrete dimensioni che, anche se soggetto a forti variazioni di livello idrico, svolge un'importante funzione per la sosta di specie ornitiche migratorie. Ospita una specie prioritaria per la 92/43 CEE ed alcuni endemiti di rilievo. Interessante è la presenza del gambero di fiume (Austropotamobius pallipes).
