4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito è importante dal punto di vista naturalistico per la presenza della risorgiva (fontanile), ben conservata e rappresentativa anche sotto l'aspetto vegetazionale. Sono infatti presenti le specie caratteristiche della cenosi sia di acque ferme (testa) che di acque correnti (asta del fontanile). Il sito è inoltre importante perchè rappresenta uno dei pochi ambienti semi-naturali rimasti in un contesto fortemente antropizzato.Oltre alle cenosi acquatiche sono presenti lembi relitti di boschi igrofili (ontanete) ancora piuttosto ben conservati. Nel suo complesso il sito è adatto non solo ad ospitare specie animali e vegetali di interesse conservazionistico, ma anche alla loro circolazione, poichè rappresenta un ottimo collegamento tra diversi habitat (coltivi, fasce boscate, filari), ovvero un classico "stepping-stone" nell'ambito del sistema di reti ecologiche locali. Tra la fauna vertebrata sono segnalate 131 specie, tra cui 61 solo di uccelli.
