4.2 Quality and importance

L'area inclusa nella ZPS occupa tutto il versante orientale e la porzione sud occidentale del monte Resegone. La forma forestale dominante nel territorio è la faggeta. Alle quote superiori, con l'accentuarsi della rocciosità essa si frammenta in formazioni pioniere e cede il passo agli arbusti ed alla vegetazione delle rupi. Sono presenti anche praterie. L'erpetofauna di quest'area annovera una popolazione di Bombina variegata, tipicamente infeodata alle pozze di alpeggio a quote comprese tra i 1000 e i 1600 m. Nell'ambito della comunità ornitica si contano 36 specie nidificanti. Le specie di maggior rilievo rilevate nel biotopo sono i rapaci diurni (Gheppio, Poiana), Coturnice, Gallo forcello, Succiacapre, le specie migratrici transahariane delle zone aperte (Stiaccino, Culbianco, Averla piccola) e il Picchio muraiolo. Buona parte dell'ornitocenosi gravita nella fascia sommitale e di cresta caratterizzata da pendii dirupati, pascoli e boschi molto diradati. Il popolamento relativo alla mammalofauna risulta fortemente impoverito nella componente dei piccoli Mammiferi, tuttavia sono presenti specie di elevato interesse come, ad esempio, Toporagno alpino, Vespertilio mustacchino, Arvicola delle nevi e Martora.
