Other Site Characteristics

La foresta di caducifoglie è formata in prevalenza da Alnus incana e specie di Salix e risulta strettamente connessa con i prati circostanti. Il substrato litologico è costituito da gneiss, miche a plagioclasi e scisti cristallini, con venature di marmo. Nella parte settentrionale dell' area si rinviene anche una vegetazione xerofila.

4.2 Quality and importance

Fosse e rivoli, resti di antichi bracci dell'Aurino, attraversano il biotopo, creando piccole zone umide. Quest'area rappresenta uno degli ultimi tratti fluviali quasi intatti, non solo a livello locale, ma anche a livello internazionale. L'area è inoltre molto importante per la sosta degli uccelli migratori, ne sono qui stati osservati di circa 120 specie diverse. L'Aurino inoltre, grazie alla sua varietà strutturale, presenta ancora importanti aree per la riproduzione del temolo.
