Il sito è caratterizzato da zone di torbiera alta, cariceti, stagni, boschi paludosi e ontaneti.

4.2 Quality and importance

La torbiera è dal punto di vista faunistico, floristico e paesaggistico una delle più importanti zone della provincia. Si tratta ancora di una delle poche vere torbiere in cui è chiaramente visibile il passaggio da torbiera bassa a torbiera alta. Di particolare rilievo la presenza di Hammarbya paludosa (Orchidiacaee), specie nuova per l'Italia.
