Other Site Characteristics

Nel tratto fra S. Giorgio e Stegona il torrente Aurino è fiancheggiato da un'intatta vegetazione ripale con ontano bianco e da boschetti con larici, pini e abeti rossi. Il torrente Aurino ha creato un paesaggio a meandri con rive ripide e basse. Il dislivello è molto scarso, per cui la superficie d'acqua si allarga e in parte appare liscia come uno specchio, in quanto l'acqua scorre molto lentamente. Il settore ripale si presenta molto intatto, in quanto in questo tratto del torrente Aurino sono stati attuati pochi interventi di regolazione. Queste caratteristiche del torrente Aurino con i suoi boschi che lo fiancheggiano rappresentano condizioni locali ideali per una fauna ricca di specie. I prati e i campi confinanti al biotopo Ahrau di Stegonas comportano un importante luogo di sosta per molte specie di uccelli durante la loro migrazione.

4.2 Quality and importance

L'Ahrau di Stegona rappresenta un habitat molto importante soprattutto per l'avifauna. Nei boschi ripali e nei prati e campi confinanti al biotopo i vari uccelli da cova locali hanno ottime possibilità di nidificazione e soprattutto le numerose specie di uccelli acquatici, in parte molto rare, per cui il biotopo ha una certa rilevanza anche come posto di sosta degli uccelli migratori.
