Other Site Characteristics

Piccolo altopiano porfirico, situato sui rilievi dell'Altopiano del M. Calisio, che nella parte sommitale occupa torbiere, paludi e laghetti; le torbiere sono tutte di transizione, ma in alcune di esse sono presenti anche cumuli di sfagni e in altre anche betulle pubescenti e pini silvestri (torbiere boscate). Nelle aree fra le torbiere sono presenti boschi di pino silvestre e di rovere. Sono presenti anche habitat di particolare interesse non compresi nell'all.I della direttiva 92/43/CEE, tra i quali molte formazioni del Magnocaricion.

4.2 Quality and importance

Complesso di eccezionale interesse, a causa delle numerose torbiere in parte boscate con betulle e pino silvestre, situate in un contesto forestale del tutto insolito, caratterizzato dalla rovere. Il sito è inoltre di rilevante importanza per la nidificazione, la sosta e/o lo svernamento di specie di uccelli protette o in forte regresso, e/o a distribuzione localizzata sulle Alpi.Si tratta inoltre di un biotopo di vitale importanza per la riproduzione di molte specie di anfibi e rettili.
