Other Site Characteristics

Il sito include il corso del Torrente Lerada, compreso nel bacino del fiume Isonzo; esso scorre in un solco vallivo su substrato calcareo con depositi misti sul fondo. La parte più fresca e meno acclive della valle è occupata da un bosco di latifoglie miste mentre la parte superiore, più erta, è occupata da faggete. Alcune aree sono occupate da boschi secondari su prati abbandonati. Il sito confina con la Repubblica di Slovenia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito comprende ampie superfici di boschi di forra (Tilio-Acerion) in buono stato di conservazione. E presente una delle rare stazioni di Pseudostellaria europea (= Stellaria bulbosa). Il sito riveste importanza ornitologica per la nidificazione di Crex crex. Nella zona fa frequenti comparse Ursus arctos, ed è piuttosto comune Vipera ammodytes, mentre Bombina variegata non è particolarmente abbondante. Nelle acque del Lerada Austropotamobius pallipes è piuttosto comune. E presente anche Cottus gobio.
