Il più lungo e importante rilievo gessoso in Italia con imponenti pareti rocciose, doline e grotte. Le peculiari condizioni geomorfologiche del sito determina una elevata diversità ambientale e la presenza di numerose specie rare.

4.2 Quality and importance

Specie vegetali CORINE appendice K: Typha minima. Specie vegetali RARISSIME: Cheilanthes persica. Specie vegetali RARE: Typha minima, Helianthemum jonium. Specie animali: Coronella girondica, specie presente con distribuzione altamente frammentata lungo la fascia medio-montana e collinare. Specializzata ad habitat xerici. Ricchezza di specie faunistiche mediterranee. Le rupi gessose costituiscono un sito ideale per Bubo bubo ed altri rapaci rupicoli. Colonie di diverse specie di Chiroptera legate ad habitat di grotta. Elevata ricchezza ittica dei torrenti.
