Other Site Characteristics

Il sito comprende tre aree delle quali la più estesa è costituita dall'asta fluviale del fiume Reno da San Biagio a Madonna del Bosco, con le sue fasce boscate ripariali igrofile; sono incluse anche le confluenze del Santerno e del Canale dei Mulini di Fusignano (quest'ultimo costeggiato da una fascia boscata a Quercus robur, Populus alba, Acer campestre e Ulmus minor; al margine di essa sorge un vecchio mulino sede di una colonia di Rhinolophus ferrumequinum). Le altre due aree, disgiunte e di limitata estensione, comprendono l'una il bacino di cava - Stagno di Fornace Violani e l'altra un boschetto igrofilo periodicamente allagato a Fraxinus oxycarpa, Salix alba, Ulmus minor, con una piccola garzaia di Egretta garzetta, Nycticorax nycticorax e Ardea cinerea, adiacente ad una piccola zona umida ripristinata attraverso l'applicazione di misure agroambientali. Questi due limitati settori assieme al già citato Canale dei Mulini di Fusignano sono tutelati come Riserva Naturale Regionale.

4.2 Quality and importance

Piccoli biotopi rappresentativi degli ambienti un tempo presenti nella pianura ravvenate interna. Specie vegetali RARE e MINACCIATE: Leucojum aestivum. Interessante la vegetazione del boschetto allagato e dei vicini chiari e prati palustri. Specie animali: è presente Alosa fallax, degne di nota all'interno della Riserva regionale di Alfonsine sono la colonia riproduttiva di Rhinolophus ferrumequinum e la popolazione di Emys orbicularis dello stagno dell'ex-cava Violani.
