Other Site Characteristics

Area palustre retrodunale in parte dulciacquicola in parte salmastra, contigua ad insediamenti industriali. Prevalenza di fragmiteti nella parte più interna con acque dolci, dove l'acqua è salmastra si trovano specie alofile.

4.2 Quality and importance

Una delle residue zone umide costiere della Toscana meridionale, un tempo assai più estese, riveste una notevole importanza per la sosta, lo svernamento e la nidificazione dell'avifauna, ed in particolare per la conservazione di alcune specie nidificanti ormai rare e minacciate come Botaurus stellaris, Circus aeroginosus e Acrocephalus melanopogon. Da segnalare la presenza del predatore Martes martes.
