Ampio bacino salmastro retrodunale caratterizzato da una fascia di fragmiteto pressoché ininterrotto lungo tutto il perimetro.

4.2 Quality and importance

Zona umida costiera tra le più importanti a livello regionale e nazionale per la conservazione dell'avifauna acquatica nidificante, svernante e migratoria, inclusa tra i siti ICBP. Importante segnalazione tra i Mammiferi di Lutra lutra presente almeno fino al 1986. Da segnalare la presenza dell'Anfibio Triturus carnifex specie endemica italiana e del Lepidottero Callimorpha qudripunctaria (nec quadripunctata!).
