Other Site Characteristics

La ZPS proposta comprende l'Isolotto dello Sparviero, la Formica di Burano e due isolotti satelliti dell'Argentario, l'Argentarola e l'Isolotto di Porto Ercole.

4.2 Quality and importance

La Formica di Burano è utilizzata nel periodo invernale come dormitorio da un cospicuo contingente di Phalacrocorax carbo che gravita nelle zone umide costiere della Toscana meridionale e dell'alto Lazio. Gli Isolotti di Porto Ercole e Argentarola possiedono notevoli potenzialità per la nidificazione di Calonectris diomedea (nidificante all'Argentarola) e Puffinus yelkouan, che vi ha nidificato negli anni '90. L'Isolotto dello Sparviero ospita, al di fuori del periodo riproduttivo, la regolare presenza di un dormitorio di Phalacrocorax aristotelis (fino a 50 indd.) e un dormitorio invernale di Phalacrocorax carbo (ca. 160 i ); le due specie si alimentano nei tratti costieri prospicenti. Sugli isolotti nidificano regolarmente 2-3 coppie di Falco peregrinus. Sull'isolotto dell'Argentarola è presente una forma morfologicamente distinta di Podarcis muralis, la cui definizione sistematica, P. muralis marcuccii, è attualmente in discussione.
