Other Site Characteristics

Rilievi collinari di natura arenacea, dove oltre agli habitat segnalati con codice ed attribuiti ai Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae (9260) ed al Salicetalia albae (92A0), sono presenti estesi boschi a Quercus cerris dell'ordine Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae. A piccole chiazze, nelle aree più elevate, ed al margine del bosco, si sviluppano brughiere a Calluna vulgaris.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il valore principale si trova nei boschi di Castanea sativa, governati ad alto fusto e con numerosi esemplari secolari ed ultra-secolari, che danno origine ad ambienti divenuti rari nell'Italia peninsulare, sia per motivi socio economici (spopolamento delle aree montane) che per la diffusione di malattie parassitarie del castagno. A tale valore si aggiunge la presenza di lembi di brughiera a Calluna vulgaris che rivestono importanza fitogeografica, in quanto prossime al limite meridionale di distribuzione. Tra le specie significative, oltre alle endemiche, si segnala anche Hymantoglossum adriaticum, rara a livello regionale. Tra la fauna si segnala anche Potamon fluviatile fluviatile (in progressiva rarefazione anche se non si ha contrazione dell'areale), Accipiter nisus, Buteo buteo, Certhia brachydactyla, Cettia cetti, Falco tinnunculus, Sitta europaea (specie poco comuni), e Mustela putorius (specie vulnerabile e rara).
