Other Site Characteristics

Rilievo calcareo con versanti occidentale e meridionale molto scoscesi, talvolta di aspetto rupestre, dove oltre agli habitat segnalati con codice ed attribuiti a Prunetalia spinosae (5130), Asperulo purpureae-Brometum erecti (6210), Saxifrago australis-Trisetetum bertolonii (8213) ed Orno-Quercetum ilicis (9340), si rinvengono: boschi cedui di Ostrya carpinifolia riferiti allo Scutellario-Ostryetum e querceti di roverella (91H0). Sui detriti posti alla base delle pareti rocciose è presente una gariga ad Euphorbia spinosa, Euphorbia Characias, Helichrysum italicum e Fumaria thymifolia, dove si è inselvatichita una popolazione di Rosmarinus officinalis.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il sito, per le caratteristiche geomorfologiche ed altitudinali dei versanti, costituisce un'importante isola fitoclimatica di tipo mediterraneo, posta al margine occidentale dell'Appennino umbro-marchigiano. Racchiude, infatti, la più significativa lecceta rupestre dell'Umbria nonché interessanti forme di vegetazione mediterranea come i pratelli terofitici e le garighe ad euforbie. Il valore dell'area è inoltre accresciuto dalla bassissima antropizzazione, che si limita alla ceduazione periodica dei boschi. Tra le specie floristiche presenti spiccano Sternbergia colchiciflora ed Euphorbia spinosa, rare a livello regionale. Tra la fauna è stato segnalato anche Falco tinnunculus, Muscicapa striata, Sylvia melanocephala e Tichodroma muraria (specie poco comuni).
