Other Site Characteristics

Complesso prevalentemente collinare, di natura marnoso-arenacea, con morfologia molto aspra caratterizzata da versanti scoscesi, spesso semirupestri, e vallate strette e tortuose. Esso si presenta in gran parte coperto da boschi cedui e boscaglie per lo più costituiti da cerro (Quercus cerris) che, a seconda dell'esposizione dei versanti, si associa con il carpino nero (Ostrya carpinifolia) o con la roverella (Quercus pubescens). Solo sui versanti più elevati, con minore pendenza o pianeggianti, tali formazioni, inquadrabili nell'ordine Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae, vengono sostituite da boschi puri di cerro o da piccoli nuclei di faggio (Fagus sylvatica), dell'ordine Fagetalia sylvaticae. Ai boschi si alternano estesi arbusteti a ginepri (Juniperus communis e Juniperus oxycedrus) e vaste aree calanchive con vegetazione camefitica riferibile all'associazione Coronillo minimae-Astragaletum monspessulani, dell'alleanza Xerobromion.

Nonostante la presenza di diversi elementi di pressione antropica, in particolare l'utilizzazione del bosco, si rileva un elevato intersse naturalistico per la presenza si pecie rare e/o localizzate.
