Other Site Characteristics

Emergenza calcarea di 582 m direttamente situata sul mare. Ricca di boschi misti di caducifoglie e sclerofille sempreverdi, mesofili, nel versante settentrionale, dell'associazione Cephalanthero-Quercetum ilicis. Nel versante meridionale prevalgono invece i boschi termofili, di sempreverdi, dell'associazione Orno-Quercetum ilicis. Il versante occidentale è invece occupato da una pineta di impianto a prevalenza di Pinus halepensis, realizzata negli anni 30', che merita di essere recuperata. Habitat da aggiungere rispetto all'allegato I della direttiva 92/43 - CEE: - Arbusteti submediterranei (Cytision sessilifolii);

4.2 Quality and importance

Specie di elevato interesse biogeografico. Il sito risulta di fondamentale importanza per la migrazione dei rapaci (Falco pecchiaiolo, Falco pescatore, Falco di palude, Aquila anatraia) e per lo svernamento dei Cormorani.Melitaea phoebe, specie indicata nella Lista Rossa nazionale [Categoria "Minor preoccupazione" (LC)] è stata rinvenuta, in data 17/08/2016 sui prati di Gradina del Poggio di Ancona.
